Fifteen cities in Minas Gerais will receive disaster prevention works in a new list of projects that will receive resources from the Growth Acceleration Program (PAC), according to the Union’s announcement this Wednesday (8).
This represents just over 11% of the 126 municipalities in Minas Gerais called “eligible”, those who present “recurrence of landslides and more than 500 people in risk area”according to unified data from the Federal Government.
- In this round there will be 19 slope containment works distributed across these 15 cities in Minas Gerais (see full list below).
- These projects will be included in PAC Seleções, an arm of the program that selects proposals from the states and municipalities themselves.
In Minas Gerais, all projects included were nominated by the cities. The government also did not inform how many proposals regarding slope containment it received from municipalities in Minas Gerais
g1 contacted the Civil House and the Ministry of Cities requesting information about the investment in MG and the proposals presented by the Minas Gerais municipalities and is awaiting feedback.

According to Belo Horizonte City Hall, the capital will receive more than R$ 17 million in investments in slope containment works.
These will be interventions to treat and stabilize slopes in the areas of the Novo São Lucas and Vila Acaba Mundo neighborhoods, in the Center-South Region, and in Conjunto Minas Caixa, in Venda Nova.
In addition to these projects related to slope containment, other disaster prevention measures must still be considered, but related to urban drainage. Across the country, the federal government expects an investment of R$4.8 billion.
Municipalities will benefit “with recurrence of flash floods or floods and more than 500 people in a risk area”, according to data from the federal government. In Minas Gerais, 134 municipalities will be eligible.
Package allocates resources for disaster prevention
Minas Gerais will receive 604 equipment and works on the new PAC Seleções list. The Union estimates that 8.1 Millions of miners, or 40% of the state’s population, will benefit.
The five modalities are implemented by the Ministry of Cities:
- rural water supply;
- slope containment;
- renewal of the public transport fleet;
- urbanization of favelas;
- urban land regularization.
In addition to slope containment works, Belo Horizonte will also receive urbanization and land regularization works and electric vehicles for the public transport bus fleet.
