Man goes to the police station to testify as a witness and ends up arrested for child support debt in AL | Alagoas

A 45-year-old man went to a police station to testify as a witness to a fight between two other men and ended up being arrested after police discovered an open arrest warrant against him for child support debt. The case happened this Tuesday (7) in Novo Lino, Zona da Mata de Alagoas.

According to the Civil Police, it is standard to check the information of suspects, victims and witnesses when recording any incident. In this case, when checking the deponent’s data, the police identified an arrest warrant issued in 2023 by the São Paulo Court of Justice.

The two men involved in the fight were releasedbut the witness ended up being detained.

According to the Chief Registry Office at the Novo Lino Regional Police Station, Desirée Amaral, the man acknowledged that he has a son who lives in São Paulo, but that he did not know about the existence of the child support action.

“He said he spoke to the boy’s mother from time to time, but she never brought up the subject. [da pensão alimentícia]. It was a surprise, he was just crying”, said the Head of Notary.

There is no information on the total amount of the debt. The man is detained at the Integrated Public Security Center (CISP) of Novo Lino, at the disposal of the Justice Department.
