3 meter python snake is rescued after killing 3 chickens in SC

One 3 meter albino python snake in length was captured in Jaraguá do Sul, in the North of Santa Catarina, this Tuesday (7), after entering a chicken coop and kill three chickens.

She went rescued after eating one of the birds, and wrapped the secondinformed biologist Christian Raboch Lempek, from the Jaraguaense Environmental Foundation (Fujama).

A video shows the moment she is removed from the chicken coop, with one of the birds still attached to her body, and carried by two firefighters to a container for transport. She was trying to eat the second chicken at that moment. The animal was removed from her (watch above).

“She killed three chickens. Of these three, she ate one, one she was eating and the other was dead on her side, perhaps it was too big and she couldn’t swallow it”, commented the biologist.

Albino python is taken to veterinarians after being rescued in SC

According to Lempek, at the veterinarian they saw that the snake was without an identification chip, which indicates that it could be illegal in the municipality. The exotic species originates from Asia. g1 asked the Civil Police whether the case would be investigated, but received no response until the last update of the text.

The biologist believes that the animal, which is not venomous, ended up escaping from a nearby house.

“Because it is an illegal animal, because it is an exotic animal, it will not be released. It will stay here in Fujama for a few days, to perhaps be used for environmental education work, or be sent to Cetas (Wild Animal Triage Center). )”, he reported.

Experts explain that If the exotic species manages to establish itself in the new environment, it can cause a serious environmental imbalance as it has no natural predators.

According to biologist Tobias Kunz, who specializes in amphibians and reptiles, however, This condition depends on several factors“as adaptation to the environment, climate, and introduction of a sufficient number of individuals to establish this population”.

“This has already happened, for example, in the southern United States, in the state of Florida, where pythons have become a problem”, he explains.

The IMA confirmed that the species is exotic in Brazil, originating from the Asian continent. It is possible to have a python at home, by purchasing it from an authorized location.

The person must have an invoice, a document of origin issued by the Brazilian Institute of the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) and the animal must be microchipped.
