Various segments of commerce and services, such as perfumeries and cosmetics, clothing, shoes and accessories, as well as electronics stores, florists and beauty shops can benefit from the main commemorative date of this first semester, Mother’s Day. The purchasing intention survey for the date of 2024, carried out by the Institute of Research and Analysis of Fecomércio Mato Grosso (IPF-MT), expects a movement of R$848 million in the economy of Mato Grosso.

The institute’s survey, carried out with 502 people from 32 municipalities in the state, between April 16th and 22nd, seeks to understand the consumption behavior of Mato Grosso residents for that date. The data that explains this circulation of money comes from almost half of those interviewed (48%) who stated that they intend to go shopping.

From the Advisory

The products most mentioned by respondents are cosmetics and perfumes, with 24%. Clothes and shoes appear with 14% and 10%, respectively. Mato Grosso residents also remembered electronic products (8%), followed by jewelry, semi-jewelry and costume jewelry (7%). Beauty salons, with aesthetic procedures, appear with 2% and breakfast baskets with 1% in the survey.

There is also an increase of 5.34% in average spending compared to Mother’s Day last year, going from R$ 334.16 to the current R$ 352.00 this year, directly impacting the sectors of commerce and services. The increase can be explained by the variation in those who will consume more on this year’s date, with 19%, and another 14% who stated that they did not spend anything last year, against 16% who claimed that they will consume less.

The president of Fecomércio-MT, José Wenceslau de Souza Júnior, also highlights the variety of segments that can increase their revenue on one of the main commemorative dates for commerce and services. “Being one of the most important commemorative dates of the year, the research scenario appears to be quite positive, as there is an increase in expected spending, but there is also a diversification in the products to be consumed, further favoring the heating of the state’s economy ”.

The IPF-MT report shows the places where consumers will go to shop, with 58% indicating stores in the city center, followed by self-employed/independent sellers, with 15%. Shopping centers will also be very popular, according to 14% of respondents. Websites and applications have a share of 7%, then, with 4%, neighborhood stores and, finally, supermarkets with 2%.

Wenceslau Júnior explains that “with stores in the city center being the main shopping destinations, together with other local establishments, movement in the cities of Mato Grosso is quite relevant and mainly strengthens commerce and services in these regions”.

The institute’s survey also shows that the credit card was the most cited among the payment methods with 47%, then Pix with 29%, debit card with 10%, then cash with 9% and vouchers and bills total 5%.

Among those who will not consume on the date, 61% said they do not celebrate the date, followed by 25% pointing to financial issues. Another 7% attributed it to time availability and 5% to distance.

Sistema S do Comércio, composed of Fecomércio, Sesc, Senac and IPF in Mato Grosso, is chaired by businessman Wenceslau Júnior (Verdão). The entity is affiliated with the National Confederation of Commerce in Goods, Services and Tourism (CNC), which is under the command of José Roberto Tadros.
