The minister of Racial Equality, Anielle Franco, cited federal aid to Rio Grande do Sul amid the tragedy caused by heavy rains to ask for votes in a publication on the social network X. After praising the Lula government’s actions aimed at the state, the minister recalled the deadline for regularizing electoral registration and defended votes “for those who act in favor of people’s lives and the Brazilian people”. The post was deleted after the negative repercussion.

“About the importance of your vote: In light of the tragedy in Rio Grande do Sul, our government invested more than R$1.5 billion in health, advances in social benefits, assistance to the homeless, food and energy guarantees. Necessary actions that only a government that cares about people takes”, said the text.

“Tomorrow [quarta] It is the last day to regularize or obtain your voter registration card to vote in these elections. If you haven’t done it yet or know someone who hasn’t done it yet, hurry up and do it. Voting for those who act in favor of people’s lives and the Brazilian people is what makes reality change”, stated the minister. She also shared the link to the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) website.

Anielle Franco’s advisor told the magazine Look that the publication was removed because they were about different subjects, meant to be published in separate posts. The text was published separately, with some changes and without associating the federal government’s aid to Rio Grande do Sul with a request for votes.

“The Federal Government has already invested more than R$ 1.5 billion in response to the tragedy in Rio Grande do Sul. This amount went to health, advances in social benefits, assistance to the homeless, food and energy guarantees. Necessary actions for a moment like this. We will continue working as a commitment from this government, so that all people have their rights to live with dignity guaranteed”, says one of the https://twitter.com/aniellefranco/status/1787927766010110250.

Already the https://twitter.com/aniellefranco/status/1787928430916333845 was shared as follows: “Tomorrow is the last day to regularize or obtain your voter registration card to vote in these elections. If you haven’t done it yet or know someone who hasn’t done it yet, hurry up and do it. Voting is citizenship and being able to choose who acts for the lives of people and the Brazilian people is what makes reality change.”

Since the beginning of last week, Rio Grande do Sul has faced storms, which caused flooding and landslides. According to the most recent Civil Defense report, released earlier this evening, 95 people died as a result of the heavy rains, 131 are missing and 372 injured. To date, 401 municipalities have been affected in some way.
