Representative Professor Rinaldo Modesto (Podemos) discussed State Law 3,707/2009, which he authored, this morning (7), in the gallery of the Legislative Assembly of Mato Grosso do Sul (ALEMS). “My project was presented because I remembered a case that happened when I worked at the hospital, with a baby who was just 10 months old, the abused baby died”, he informed.

“This is one of the worst crimes you can imagine, I would call it the mother of them all, against the defenseless child, and the vast majority, and it happens precisely in the environment that should have protection, within the home, unfortunately. The objective of the law is to raise awareness and create mechanisms so that people can take appropriate action when they find out about it. Public Security data indicates 261 cases of rape of vulnerable people, aged 0 to 11 years old”, reported

“If it were just one case, it would already be a reason for repulsion and indignation, but we created this law to raise awareness among the population. Children are oppressed by this crime, and currently we have religious people, politicians and several people in prison because of this crime. We need to continue working with a view to helping the police work. I praise the Child and Adolescent Protection Office, which carries out this work, which I classify as very difficult”, concluded Professor Rinaldo Modesto.

Representative Lia Nogueira (PSDB) reiterated the relevance of the speech. “The Civil Police have done an excellent job in Mato Grosso do Sul. This type of crime repulses me. When I covered the police, as a journalist, I remember that when this crime emerged, it was something that took us off our feet, with cases of even babies being raped, who died. This is unacceptable, we have to make a lot of progress in this regard. This Parliament is essential for this issue to be multiplied, its law comes so that we can raise awareness. The indigenous population also suffers from this and we need to protect them,” she highlighted.

The sexual abuse of children and adolescents is also a topic addressed by the Cidadania é o Bicho Collection, produced by the ALEMS Social Media Management. In a delicate way, the dialogue between the animals that make up the illustrated story provides information and alerts on the topic for children and adults. Check it out by clicking here.
