In partnership with the Sexual Diversity Coordination of Rio de Janeiro City Hall, the Commerce Learning Service (Senac) trained a class of LGBTQIA+ and low-income people to become caregivers for the elderly.

“It is very gratifying to see Rio City Hall at the forefront of projects that transform people’s lives, whether through education, training or the exercise of citizenship. I know the reality of the students who are with us and the effort made to participate in classes. These are people who are fighting to change their lives and overcome prejudice”, celebrated Carlos Tufvesson, Sexual Diversity Coordinator at City Hall.

The initiative is part of the Qualified Diversity program, which has already offered more than 250 places on professional training courses to low-income LGBTQIA+ people, especially trans and transvestite people who are in a situation of social vulnerability. In addition to training, the program also directs these people to the job market through the Senac RJ Opportunities Bank.

The elderly caregivers course lasted five months and instructed students to help elderly people with their daily limitations and focus on their general condition and well-being. In addition, participants also took citizenship training classes, with the aim of promoting protagonism and autonomy in social environments and insertion into the job market.
