Event to celebrate 10 years of the Amazonas School Education and Indigenous Health Forum (Foreeia) takes place this Wednesday (04/08), from 8am to 4pm, in the Alalau auditorium at the Faculty of Education of the Federal University of Amazonas (UFAM) .

The president of Foreeia, Alva Rosa Tukano, highlights that the event is a way of commemorating 10 years of struggles and initiatives to develop the 25 indigenous educational networks, which work in search of public educational policies.

“We carry out strategic planning of actions in the short, medium and long term in favor of the materialization of Public Policies in Indigenous School Education for the indigenous peoples of Amazonas, given the importance of Indigenous School Education for all agendas”, said Alva.

Professor Alva Tukano highlighted that within the scope of Basic Education, in the short term, the forum seeks to strengthen the partnership with the Indigenous School Education Management (GEEI).

“We have a new manager, who took over at SEDUC (Secretary of Education), appointed by the indigenous movement, professor Sansão Tikuna. This way, we outline better strategies to support Indigenous School Education (EEI) both in the state and municipal networks”, commented Alva.

The program will cover the history of the forum, the collective struggle of indigenous peoples, collective rights, appreciation of indigenous languages ​​and their maintenance, the challenges of education in the Amazon and the global climate agenda.

In addition to the conversation circles with socio-political debates, the event will have cultural presentations by the indigenous groups Wotchimaücü, AMARN, Kamgapeba Group of Aldeia Tururukari-uka.

Among the guests are indigenous personalities Gersem Baniwa; Clarisse Tukano; Cristina Baré, Yura Marubo and Alva Rosa Tukano. Representatives of indigenous and educational associations. Regional indigenous organizations and Indigenous School Education Networks (EEI).

Alva Tukano informs that the interests of indigenous representatives are to expand educational rights.

“In the medium and long term, we want to create an Indigenous School Education Policy for Amazonas, which does not yet exist. What we currently have are specific programs that serve indigenous schools at SEDUC and SEMEDs (Municipal Education Departments)”.

The president added that the forum is also coordinating with public universities and the Ministry of Education (MEC) ways to specialize indigenous teachers. In addition, articulation of indigenous policies in universities.

The event will bring together the Amazon Front for Mobilization in Defense of Indigenous Rights (FAMDDI), the Indigenous Missionary Council (CIMI), the Service and Cooperation Association with the Yanomami People (SECOYA), the Amazon Service for Action, Reflection and Education (SARES), the State Council of Indigenous Education of Amazonas (Ceei-AM), State University of Amazonas (UEA), UFAM, Federal Institute of Amazonas (IFAM) and SEDUC.

Foreeia was made official on April 30, 2014 as a milestone in the struggle of indigenous leaders and teachers from Amazonas, Acre and Roraima.

Its objective is to encourage debate to exchange experiences, define strategies, as well as discuss and develop public policy proposals that aim to guarantee and promote the rights of indigenous peoples to differentiated, specific and quality education and health as guaranteed in legislation. national, defending its self-determination and collective management.
