Wind knocks down poles and closes highway in the interior of Amazonas

A strong wind knocked down several electricity poles on the AM-010 highway, near the municipality of Itacoatiara, in the interior of Amazonas. With the fall of the poles, a section of the track was blocked, but was released on Monday (6). The power supply was also interrupted for some residents of the region, who are now waiting for the power grid to recover.

The incident was recorded at kilometer 30 of the highway, on Monday (6). According to the concessionaire Amazonas Energia, almost 1 km of the electrical network was left on the ground after the wind that hit the region.

According to the company, the accident occurred due to a landslide.

After the poles fell, some residents were left without power. Furthermore, a section of the track was blocked, but was released on Monday (6).

In a statement, the energy concessionaire reported that it isolated the area and began work to restore the network. Initially, the power cables were collected to prevent them from being stolen, according to Amazonas Energia.

This Tuesday (7), the concessionaire also reported that it is still working to restore service to residents of the affected section. The network will be relocated at other points to avoid further accidents.
