The publication is coordinated by the Socioeconomics and Agricultural Planning analyst at Epagri/Cepa, Tabajara Marcondes. He explains that the 2023 VPA calculation considered the 62 products with the highest production value in the State.

These are animal production (livestock and aquaculture), crop production (grains, other temporary crops, vegetables and permanent crops) and forestry production and plant extraction.

Tabajara reveals that, in terms of VPA composition, the highlights are: pigs for slaughter, 20.2%; chickens for slaughter, 16.4%; milk, 12.3%; and soybeans, 10.9%. “Of the other products, only tobacco (5.6%) and corn grain (5.2%) had a share greater than 5% in the 2023 state VPA”, says the analyst.

The publication also contains data on agribusiness exports from Santa Catarina, analyzes of rural credit and the performance of the main agricultural and livestock activities carried out in the State.

Agro responds for 64.7% of SC exports

In the case of the international market, the analysis shows that in 2023 agribusiness achieved the second best performance in history. The exported value, of US$7.49 billion, is surpassed only by the US$7.74 billion in 2022.

As a result, agriculture accounted for 64.7% of the US$11.58 billion generated by total exports from Santa Catarina. The sector was also responsible for 4.5% of the US$165.45 billion exported by Brazilian agriculture.

SC was the state that applied the most Pronaf credit to livestock farming

For the 2023/24 harvest (July/23 to June/24), there was an increase in credit available to Santa Catarina farmers: R$364.22 billion for those included in the National Support Program for Medium Rural Producers (Pronamp) and other producers, and R$71.60 billion for family farming. “These values mean nominal increases of 27% and 34% over those available in the 2022/23 harvest”, highlights Tabajara.

Data helps with public policies

The Secretary of State for Agriculture and Livestock, Valdir Colatto, participated in the event and highlights the importance of the publication. “An analytical look at the performance of agriculture is fundamental to guide public policies that reach the countryside.

The data shows the diversity of our production, helping us plan programs and projects to meet the real needs of farmers”, he says.

The president of Epagri, Dirceu Leite, comments that the Síntese began to be published in 1976 and is characterized as one of the longest-running publications in its category. “This annual publication summarizes the effort of Epagri’s socioeconomic research to organize, analyze and make structured data available for agribusiness in Santa Catarina. This is reliable information that helps the agricultural segment in making decisions”, emphasizes Dirceu.

The manager of Epagri Cepa, Edilente Steinwandter, highlights the innovation in this 44th Síntese edition. “The document brings new interactive features to the digital file, allowing quick, dynamic and interactive reading. By including links and access buttons in each section, readers can easily navigate between different sections of the publication,” she says.

She also thanks everyone who made it possible to generate data, such as the entities representing agriculture, the reporting partners and the State Secretariat for Agriculture and Livestock, through its linked companies – Cidasc, Epagri and Ceasa.
