Police officers and municipal guard are arrested on suspicion of robbing a house and extorting residents in Manaus

Two military police officers and a municipal guard from Presidente Figueiredo, in the interior of Amazonas, were arrested this Monday (6) on suspicion of participating in a robbery at a house and extorting a resident, in Manaus. They were captured in the parking lot of Hospital João Lúcio, in the East Zone of the capital, a location that had been agreed between the victim and the police to hand over the extortion money. The suspects were identified as Sergeant Márcio José, Corporal Antônio Carlos dos Santos and municipal guard William Lopes. According to the victim’s report to the police, the trio carried out the crime with the help of at least two other accomplices. The suspects pretended to be civil police officers and went to the resident’s residence, claiming that they were executing a search and seizure warrant when they committed the crime.

Inside the residence, the group stole jewelry and other objects. In addition to threatening the resident and charging R$10,000 to not return to the area. The gang then fled and the victim sought out the base of the 9th Community Interactive Company (Cicom) to report the crime.

During the registration of the case, the victim began to receive messages from one of the suspects demanding the extortion amount. That was when the police decided, together with the resident, to arrange a meeting point in the João Lúcio parking lot to capture the suspects.

The complainant reviewed the characteristics of the vehicle used by the suspects and the teams from the 9th and 11th Cicom managed to arrest the three suspects. There is no information about the trio’s other accomplices.

The suspects were found with the digital video recorder from the victim’s home security cameras, as well as a ballistic vest with Civil Police emblems. In addition to a pistol, a simulacrum and other clothing and accessories.

The suspects were taken to the 14th Integrated Police District (DIP).

The Military Police of Amazonas (PMAM) reported that it opened an administrative procedure to investigate what happened and emphasizes that it does not condone the illicit actions of its agents and that it has been acting to combat misconduct committed by its military police officers, such as the action triggered in this second.

The Municipality of Presidente Figueiredo, through the Municipal Government Secretariat (Semgov), said that it does not condone the illegal acts of a municipal public servant, suspected of participating in a criminal act, and that it will await the investigation of the facts, for appropriate measures, observing due legal process.
