The situation at Salgado Filho International Airport in Porto Alegre has worsened, and only a small part of the runway is not covered by water.
Without operating flights since Friday night, the airport in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul saw water advance last night, and now only a part of the runway (around 600m), close to threshold 29 and opposite the Guaíba River, is not covered by water .
In the morning, aviators tried to rescue private aircraft from the hangars and general aviation yard that began to be taken over by water, in order to reduce the damage caused by the rain, taking the planes to higher points within the airport area.
Rescue and support operations are being carried out at the Canoas Air Base, which is a few kilometers away and north of Salgado Filho, which is still not expected to reopen.
