Government will help rebuild roads in RS, says Lula

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) said this Sunday (May 5, 2024) that the federal government will help with the reconstruction of roads in Rio Grande do Sul. Because of the rain, many have destroyed bridges or sections completely blocked or partially. Lula further declared that he will reallocate resources to the State.

“Let’s help Rio Grande do Sul rebuild its roads“, he stated to the State Governor, Eduardo Leite (PSDB), during a press interview. The president stated that one of the State’s priorities must be the return of children to schools.

The federal government will take preventive measures, according to Lula. “I’m going to ask Marina Silva [ministra do Meio Ambiente] a prevention plan because we need to stop chasing misfortune. We need to see in advance”he declared.

The president stated that the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, will collaborate in negotiating the State’s debt with the Union, which restricts the application of federal resources to help the population. Lula said, however, that there will be supervision in the application of resources.

“The president of the TCU (Federal Audit Court), Bruno Dantas, will act to guarantee the application of the resources sent to Rio Grande do Sul in the works for which they were destined”. Present, Dantas said that TCU will prioritize Rio Grande do Sul.

During the interview, Lula added fuel to the fire of political disputes.
