On World Traffic and Driving Courtesy Day, celebrated on May 5th, the watchword is awareness. Therefore, a series of activities were carried out in Parque da Cidade, this Sunday (5), to bring information and educational activities to the population through lectures, games and vehicle exhibitions. The event was promoted by the Federal District Highway Department (DER-DF), Federal District Traffic Department (Detran-DF) and the Federal District Military Fire Department (CBMDF).

The action is part of the Yellow May campaign and aims to raise awareness about the importance of healthy traffic. To this end, lectures on traffic rules, safe crossing, basic mechanics and first aid, as well as games for children and an exhibition of CBMDF and DER vehicles.

Resident of Lago Norte, soldier Maria Castro, 33 years old, who was walking in the park, says that the action makes a lot of difference to traffic. “Here in the park there is great access to the population and children and it is very important to be aware from a young age”, she says.

Cecília Matos, 40 years old, resident of Asa Norte, came with her family from Rio de Janeiro to Brasília four months ago. She praised the respect that exists in DF traffic and believes that campaigns like the one carried out this Sunday are important for this culture to be perpetuated.

“There is an organization in the city in relation to traffic that caught our attention. There are a lot of pedestrian crossings and people respect them and stop for pedestrians to pass. We don’t see this in other places and it’s important that this isn’t lost. Therefore, this event is very good”, she highlights.

Traffic Safety

According to the president of DER-DF, Fauzi Nacfur Júnior, the aim is to remember the importance of reducing accidents and deaths in traffic.

“We always remember that traffic is carried out by several entities – drivers, motorcyclists, pedestrians, cyclists. Everyone has to interact well so that traffic works well and safely”, says Nacfur.

The Educational Actions Manager at Detran-DF, Magda Brandão, reinforces the need to alert people about the “importance of healthy traffic”. “To this end, we are holding this event on World Traffic and Driving Courtesy Day with many lectures and actions: to raise awareness among the population,” she said.
