Family was desperate without news of 5-year-old child who was left stranded in flood
The 5-year-old girl who was missing in Canoas, Rio Grande do Sul, was rescued amid floods and landslides caused by the rain. This Sunday morning (5), Rafaella’s grandmother, Thaynara de Arruda, aged 39, reported that the child was found by the family at around 10pm on Saturday (5).
The grandmother lives in Campo Grande and had not heard from her granddaughter since yesterday when she found out that a helicopter had carried out the rescue, but the girl was not found at any reception point. Despite reporting that the girl was found, the grandmother did not give details about where and how she is.
Thaynara said that the child’s mother left in the early hours of Saturday (4) in search of help and got a helicopter to rescue her mother-in-law and daughter who were at home waiting.
The helicopter, however, separated the two during the rescue. The mother went to Ulbra Canoas (Lutheran University of Brazil), which became a reception point. The family found the girl’s grandmother next, but not her granddaughter, who had stayed for the second trip.
Rio Grande do Sul has already declared a public calamity due to flooding in more than 140 cities, which began on Saturday (27) and has already exceeded what was expected for the entire year.
Help – The government of Mato Grosso do Sul sent nine military firefighters specializing in water rescue to Rio Grande do Sul, in addition to two vehicles, a helicopter and a boat to help homeless families.
The soldiers from the 6th group of the Military Fire Brigade will stay in the region for ten days. They left on Friday (3), at 9:20 am and arrived this Saturday morning (4).
