A new initiative by the State Government aims to increase integration with municipalities to prevent violence.

This week, the rule establishing the creation of a Working Group (GT) to create a governance system for the actions developed in the Together for Security Program was published in the Official Gazette of the Pernambuco Executive.

The action is carried out by the Secretariats of Planning, Management and Regional Development (Seplag) and Social Defense (SDS).

The GT meetings have already started. Government representatives also began holding meetings with those responsible for municipal security bodies.

On Tuesday (7), a meeting will be held to present the results of the Working Group.

“In addition, the construction of Listen to Change itself involved intense action from city halls, through participation in thematic workshops held in 2023.

These meetings were made up of mixed groups, including civil servants and representatives of organized civil society, municipalities, representatives of the state legislature, researchers and the Justice system”, highlighted the Secretary of Planning, Management and Regional Development, Fabrício Marques.

Based on the work carried out by the GT, management will be able to take even greater ownership of the best actions it can adopt to support cities in reducing violence.

“We are talking here about prevention and not repression. So, help can arrive with improved lighting and patrolling, investments in infrastructure and equipment distribution, for example”, explained the secretary.

In practice, the State Government will provide resources and city halls will make commitments that will still be defined by the Working Group.

In addition to representatives from Seplag and SDS, the GT has the participation of the city councils of Cabo de Santo Agostinho, Camaragibe, Igarassu, Ipojuca, Jaboatão dos Guararapes and Paudalho.
