A 48-year-old man was sentenced to 10 years and 8 months in prison for the crime of raping a vulnerable person in Araguanã, in the north of the state. He allegedly sexually abused his ex-stepdaughter when the victim’s mother went to work. The sentence is this Friday (3), from the 1st Criminal Court of Xambioá.

The defendant lived with the child’s mother for five years. The victim lived with the abuser from the age of 8 to 13. According to the investigation into the case, he stayed with the child while the mother was away and the abuse occurred several times in 2016.

The case reached the authorities in 2021, when an aunt of the victim reported it. At the time, the accused’s former stepdaughter, who had already turned 18, confirmed in testimony the abuse she suffered.

The approaches only ended when the man was reported. He separated from his wife and went to Goiânia (GO), where he currently lives.

According to information from the Court of Justice (TJTO), the defendant denied the crime and stated that the victim was lying. He also explained that his mother-in-law was not in favor of the relationship, as he is younger than the victim’s mother. That’s why they must have induced the girl to denounce him.

Despite the objection, judge José Carlos Machado considered that the young woman was in a vulnerable condition when the abuse occurred. The defendant was convicted and she will have to serve her sentence in a closed regime. But he gained the right to appeal in freedom because he no longer lived with the victim.
