With classes suspended indefinitely, representatives of Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) met, this Friday (3), to discuss possible interventions in the building structure of the School of Physical Education and Sports (EEFD), as well as the resumption of academic activities. The encounter took place after part of an eave gave way and broke the walls of an access corridor to the EEFD, in front of Extension Coordinationlast Wednesday night (1st).
According to the Reab ETU/UFRJthe body responsible for the technical management of the university’s real estate assets, to correct the serious building problems, according to a preliminary survey, approximately R$ 796 million would be required.s. The rector of UFRJ, Roberto Medronho highlighted that the institution needs an urgent transfer of funds to resolve the problem.
“The ETU has carried out a survey of, to date, 52% of our buildings. The estimated cost for recovery, in 2023, was R$796 million. We can’t wait any longer,” alerted the university president, who is awaiting an inspection by the Civil defense in the damaged building.
The subjects whose classes are taught in other units are maintained. Classes for subjects that began on April 24 are cancelled.
On Monday (6), teachers, students and other professionals from UFRJ will hold a meeting about the collapse and its material and academic consequences. The meeting will take place in the auditorium Rodolpho Paulo Rocco (Quinhentao)from 2 pm to 4 pm.
In 2023, EEFD recorded another collapse
The incident was not the first of its kind at the School of Physical Education. On the afternoon of September 6, 2023, the marquee of an area of the Dance course, where four classrooms were located, also collapsed.
