Project trains people with disabilities to work in the culture segment of the Federal District

According to 2020 data from IBGE – Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, around 45 million Brazilians have some type of disability. In the Federal District, this data corresponds to 5.2% of the population in a total of approximately 154 thousand people. Individuals who, regardless of their limitations, are able to enter the job market. The QUALIFICATION AND INCLUSION project is an initiative by Lente Cultural, which aims to contribute to a more fair and egalitarian society, through the training and professionalization of PCDs to work in different areas of culture and creative economy in the DF.

Despite the Federal District’s legislation guaranteeing rights to people with disabilities, in several aspects, such as in the FAC’s own notice – Cultural Support Fund -, which stipulates the hiring of PWDs in its teams, there is still a need for a change of attitude on the part of the Federal District. market to end discrimination and social prejudice through the employability and inclusion of these professionals in the production chain, eliminating social barriers between people. “Qualification and Inclusion is an action by Lente Cultural that aims to professionalize and offer technical qualifications so that people with disabilities can work in the cultural sector. It is an opportunity that goes beyond training, providing opportunities and providing sociability, networking and inclusion in practice”says Carol Peres, project manager.

The qualification activities will be carried out in three short courses (20 hours), with a total of 50 places in the areas of Photography, with basic concepts for recording cultural actions and events that can be used in the production of reports and accountability. ; Audio description that helps translate works of art and visual content into words for people with visual impairments or low vision; and Monitoring for art exhibitions, with public service techniques and guided tours of the exhibition.

In addition, the project will offer an online lecture for the broadcast of CEAC – Registration of Cultural Entities and Agents -, which will be available on YouTube. There will also be a face-to-face lecture on Cultural Accessibility and Inclusion, aimed at employers to promote and share ideas on how to make cultural projects even more accessible and expand the inclusion of people with disabilities in work teams.

Lente Cultural has partners to mobilize the public, including the Dorina Nowil Braille Library, APADA and APAE-DF, places where training activities will be carried out, with the provision of Libra interpretation and alternative text, for a better understanding of the contents and graphic pieces.

The project, which is sponsored by the FAC – Cultural Support Fund of the Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy of the Federal District, also aims to promote awareness among employers and employees in work relations, promoting a breakdown of barriers and prejudices towards these individuals, thus providing the construction of increasingly more inclusive policies for PWDs.
