Government releases R$600 million in parliamentary amendments to help Rio Grande do Sul
The government decided to accelerate the payment of R$600 million in parliamentary amendments for aid actions in Rio Grande do Sul, affected by intense rains in recent days. The action was announced by the Minister of Institutional Relations, Alexandre Padilha.
“The amendments destined for Rio Grande do Sul that have already been analyzed by the bodies and that are ready to be executed will have their payments authorized immediately”, explained Padilha.
Parliamentary amendments are funds provided for in the Union Budget and are allocated by deputies and senators for works and projects in the states. The release is made by the government, based on a formal request from parliamentarians.
Heavy rains and 39 confirmed deaths
The intense rains over Rio Grande do Sul in recent days left entire cities flooded, caused rivers to overflow and, until Friday night (3), caused 39 deaths.
The state government declared a state of calamity, a situation that was recognized by the federal government.
In addition to aid for the population’s basic needs, Rio Grande do Sul will also need to redo some infrastructure works, affected by the floods.
