Worker dies after being crushed by structure during construction

A worker died after a precast concrete structure fell on him during construction work on a warehouse in Escada, in Zona da Mata Sul of Pernambuco, on Thursday (2). Witnesses told the Civil Police that one of the cranes collided with this structure (see video above).

The accident happened around 3pm, in the Escada Industrial District, which is on the banks of BR-101. The victim, whose name was not released, was 46 years old, worked at the company responsible for building the precast warehouse and died at the construction site.

Images received by TV Globo show part of the fallen structure in the construction area. In addition to the victim, the pillars also fell onto the cabin of one of the cranes.

According to the Fire Department, a fire and rescue vehicle and an ambulance were sent to the scene. The Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) in Ribeirão, a neighboring city, was also called and took the victim’s body to the Escada Regional Hospital.

The case is being investigated by the Civil Police as “other accidental deaths and bodily injury”. The corporation stated that the investigations “continue until the case is fully clarified.”
