Pernambuco has more than 106 thousand people who declared themselves indigenous, says Census 2022

Pernambuco has 106,646 people who declare themselves indigenous.

This is what data from the 2022 Census revealed, this Friday (3), by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) points out.

Of this total, 34,313 lived on indigenous lands and 72,332 lived outside indigenous lands.

The age group with the largest number of indigenous people is 15 to 19 years old, which accounts for 9,810 people (9.20%) of the indigenous population.

Then comes the 10 to 14 year old age group, with 9,466 people (8.88%).

Indigenous people between 20 and 24 years old, with 9,355 people (8.77%), are part of the third largest group.

Women are the majority in the indigenous population, with 54,624 people (51.22%) to 52,022 men (48.78%).

In Pernambuco, the municipality with the largest self-declared indigenous population is Pesqueira with 10,506 people, followed by Tacaratu 8,241, Cabrobó 6,231, Águas Belas 5,712 and Jatobá 5,579.

In four municipalities there were no people who declared themselves indigenous: Salgadinho, Chã de Alegria, Belém de Maria and Barra de Guabiraba.

The aging rate of the indigenous population in Pernambuco, according to the 2022 Demographic Census, is 50.54.

The median age is 29 years old. The sex ratio is 95.24.

The population of indigenous people aged 0 to 14 totals 26,310 people and the population aged 60 and over is 13,296 people.

The aging index (IE) represents the number of people aged 60 or over in relation to a group of 100 people up to 14 years of age.

Median age is the separator measure that uses the age criterion to divide the population into two equal parts, that is, it is the age that separates the younger half from the older half of the population.

The sex ratio (RS) represents the number of men in relation to a group of 100 women in a population.

Quilombolas

The 2022 Demographic Census also registered 78,864 people who declared themselves quilombolas in the State.

Of this total, 6,769 lived in quilombola territories and 72,095 people lived outside quilombola territories.

The age group that has the largest number of quilombolas is that of 15 to 19 years old with 7,120 people (9.03%) followed by the population of 10 to 14 years old with 6,910 people (8.76%) and 20 to 24 years old with 6,404 people (8.12%).

Women are the majority in the quilombola population and total 39,864 people (50.55%), very close to the number of men who reached a total of 39,000 people (49.45%).

In Pernambuco, of the 184 municipalities in the State, 113 had at least one person who declared themselves a quilombola.

The municipality with the largest quilombola population is Custódia with 7,744 people, followed by Bom Conselho 6,477 people, Garanhuns 5,938 people, Santa Maria da Boa Vista 3,622 people and Mirandiba 3,363 people.

The aging rate of the quilombola population in Pernambuco, according to the 2022 Demographic Census, is 49.65. The median age is 30 years old. The sex ratio is 97.83. The quilombola population aged 0 to 14 totals 19,241 people and those aged 60 or over 9,553 people.
