The Public Electoral Ministry (MPE) spoke out, on Monday 30th, in favor of the conviction of the Minister of Transport, Renan Filho, and the governor of the State of Alagoas, Paulo Dantas (MDB), for alleged abuse of economic power in the 2022 elections.
According to the opinion obtained by West, alongside federal deputy Rafael Brito (MDB-AL), the two would have used the structure of the “Bolsa Escola 10” social program to promote their candidacies. At the time, Renan Filho was governor of the state and was running for the Senate. Dantas was his vice-governor and Brito was state secretary of Education.

The social program was implemented in December 2021, ten months before the general elections. “Bolsa Escola 10” aimed to reward students from the state school system with scholarships. During the period, R$120 million in prizes would have been redistributed.
According to the MPE, the program had an electoral bias because it was created on the eve of the elections, because it awarded rewards without requiring feedback from students and did not involve social vulnerability.
Regional electoral prosecutor Antônio Henrique Cadete argues that Rafael Brito was responsible for hiring Caixa Econômica Federal, in addition to publicizing the social program. In this way, he asks for his conviction and ineligibility.

Regarding Renan Filho, he is considered the creator of the social program. “It is therefore appropriate, as a public agent responsible for prohibited conduct, as provided for in art. ” , the document said.
Because he took over the government after Renan Filho left, Paulo Dantas would also have benefited from government action. “The records demonstrate that Paulo Dantas used the aforementioned government action as a campaign platform”, continued the prosecutor, asking for the current governor of Alagoas to be ineligible
In the process, the three defendants deny that they would have benefited from the program or that “Bolsa Escola 10” had an electoral bias.
