Nova Andradina and 32 other municipalities in the State faced a month of March with rainfall below the historical average, according to data from Cemtec (Mato Grosso do Sul Weather and Climate Monitoring Center). This situation was particularly observed in the central-south, east and southwest regions of the state.
Campo Grande, the capital, recorded an accumulated rainfall of 28% below expectations, with just 108.2 millimeters compared to the 149.6 millimeters of the historical average for the month of March.
Jardim, among the affected municipalities, had the lowest rainfall, with just 18.6 millimeters, representing an 86% drop in relation to the historical average of 133.7 millimeters.
Other municipalities listed by Cemtec include Ponta Porã (-16%), Rochedo (-32%), Água Clara (-36%), Paranaíba (-43%), and Nova Andradina, which recorded a 45% drop in rainfall compared to the historical average.
Of the 46 municipalities analyzed, only 13, located in the north, extreme north and northeast regions, had rainfall above the historical average, ranging from 120 to 240 millimeters.
Sonora stood out with the highest rainfall, accumulating 390 millimeters in March 2024, representing an increase of 106% in relation to the historical average.
These data were based on the Inmet meteorological station, covering the period from 1981 to 2010, with an 87% drop in accumulated rainfall in March, according to Cemtec.
