First of 14 monorail trains manufactured in China by BYD will be released this Friday (26)

The first train of Line 17-Gold will be delivered to the São Paulo Metro on Friday night (26), in the city of Guang’an, China, where it was manufactured. The composition will then be prepared to be sent to Brazil by ship, expected to arrive at the Port of Santos in July.

This composition is part of a batch of 14 units ordered by Metro from the Chinese company BYD. The established schedule defines the arrival of the second train later this year, with the others being delivered to Brazil gradually in 2025.

After customs clearance procedures, the train will be transported to Pátio Água Espraiada for assembly and the start of testing protocols, which guarantee safety certificates and release for operation, in a process called commissioning.

Implementation of Line 17-Gold

The Metro resumed construction of Line 17-Gold in September last year and has been advancing with more than a thousand people involved. Recently, the company completed the laying of beams, by lifting, on the commercial operating road, and there are also activities involved in manufacturing the iron structures of Pátio Água Espraiada, in addition to assembling the track changing devices on site. The stations are also finished and adjusted, as well as the manufacture of metal structures, walkways and closing frames.

In parallel, activities are taking place to install systems, with the laying of ducts and electrical power cabling, as well as the use of a cart that travels along the roads to install energy capture rails, in addition to work in China, such as the manufacture of platform doors and gas-insulated primary substation, and also in Germany, Hungary and Spain, for the manufacture of power disconnectors, rectifier groups, train washing machines and other equipment.

The goal is to complete the rough work by the end of 2025, allowing the installation of systems to progress for the opening of the line in 2026, which will connect Congonhas Airport to the rail transport network and benefit 100,000 people daily.
