Video shows escape of motorcyclist who ran over and killed pedestrian after wheeling motorcycle in MG

The traffic crime took place on Avenida Vereador Antônio da Costa, in the São Geraldo neighborhood. Security cameras recorded the exact moment of the crash and the motorcyclist’s escape without providing assistance.

According to the PM, shortly after the accident, Wagner de Albuquerque Silva, aged 20, took a ride on a motorcycle and went home, in the Pão de Açúcar neighborhood. He then fled the residence and was never located.

“We had information that he had left the city. Now we need support from the population with information so that we can locate him. The report can be made by calling 190 or 181”, says Military Police lieutenant, Antônio Armando Azevedo.

According to the Civil Police, the 28-year-old motorcyclist who allegedly helped the suspect was driven and released by the PM, through a Detailed Report of Occurrence. He was heard by the Civil Police this Friday morning (26).

“This citizen who supported him was arrested for personal favor. A TCO was made on him, he will answer for this crime of personal favor for having supported the perpetrator’s escape”, explained the PM lieutenant.

Family members say that João Maria Lopes da Silva, 60 years old, had just finished lunch and was at a bus stop resting shortly before he was run over.

“He fled the scene of the accident, did not provide assistance and is trying to escape the act. It is endless cowardice. We want justice”, said Fred Costa, the victim’s son-in-law.

Camera images show when the pedestrian crosses the street. Other motorcyclists are stopped at the intersection, which has a closed signal. Close to reaching the other side, the pedestrian is hit by the motorcyclist, who appears in the images riding his motorcycle. The man runs away without providing help.

The victim was left lying on the track and was rescued by EMS, but did not survive his injuries. João Maria died in the ambulance.
