Dozens of tourists faced a “congestion of people” while climbing Yandang Mountain in eastern China Chinaon Saturday, 4. Overcrowding caused visitors to get stuck in the middle of the climbing routemore than a thousand meters high, for approximately one hour.

The ‘chaos’ on the mountain was recorded on video. In it, you can see dozens of people wearing safety equipment, almost lined up, while clinging to the cliff’s ropes.

The company responsible for managing Yandang Park, Wenzhou Dingcheng Sports Development Co., Ltd, acknowledged that it ‘lacked control’. “Due to our miscalculation about how many customers would come, the lack of effective traffic controls such as a ticket reservation system, and deficiencies in on-site management, customers were blocked and trapped on the ascent route,” he told CNN International. The company also temporarily suspended ticket sales for the attraction.

Yandang Mountain is in the southeast of Zhejiang province. It covers an area of 450 square kilometers, 1,150 meters high and has more than 500 tourist attractions in eight major scenic areas such as Lingfeng Peak, Lingyan Craig and Dalongqiu Waterfall. It is believed to be around 120 million years old.
