The Secretary of State for Human Development of Paraíba (SEDH), Pollyanna Dutra, carried out another delivery of basic food baskets to the quilombolas of Paraíba, in order to guarantee the food and nutritional security of the communities. The initiative, which is being carried out in partnership with the Federal Public Ministry, is internalizing the execution of public policies in the State with a focus on traditional communities.

During the deliveries, Pollyanna reflected on the importance of experiencing the difficulties faced by communities, in order to make improvements for the benefit of the population in situations of social vulnerability. “Politics is made up of people who have feelings. Who speaks, listens and sees. That’s why when we come here, it’s not just to deliver food, but to listen to what each community has to say”, said the secretary.

In recent days, more than 1,500 families from the cities of Ingá, Riachão do Bacamarte, Boa Vista, Serra Branca, Camalaú, São João do Tigre, Livramento, Cacimbas and Tavares were awarded the benefit.

“It is necessary to have commitment and respect for these people who have always fought and resisted, but did not live due to the lack of rights. This is a historic repair that the Government has made. Previously, the benefit was delivered first to everyone and then to quilombos. However, that later never came. And, since we took over the secretariat, alongside Governor João Azevêdo, we started treating quilombos as paramount. Politics is now a priority. Not only on paper, but also in practice”, said Pollyanna.

For beneficiary Maria José, from the Pedra D’água community, in Ingá, the initiative will help the entire quilombola community. “It is important to have a Government that knows how to help the people who need it most. It is a huge happiness for the community to be receiving this help,” she said.

In total, the action will cover 50 traditional communities, such as riverside communities, gypsies and quilombolas, in the State.
