The state governor, Renato Casagrande, launched, this Friday (03), in a ceremony in the municipality of Boa Esperança, Operation Harvest 2024, which consists of reinforcing policing in field areas in 72 municipalities in Espírito Santo, during the period of harvesting coffee, sugar cane, pineapple, among other crops. Reinforcement of security in these areas will be carried out by the Military Police of Espírito Santo (PMES), from May 3rd to November 30th of this year.

R$5.1 million will be invested in the payment of Supplementary Operational Scale Compensation (ISEO), with a total of 14,250 extra six-hour shifts planned for each military police officer. The objective of Operation Harvest 2024 is to increase the security of rural producers during the harvest period, due to the migration of people, in addition to the greater circulation of goods and values in the state’s producing regions.

“Operação Colheita brings more security to rural owners, traders, residents and also workers. Every year we invest to ensure a safe and profitable harvest for everyone. May the harvest be very good, because with safety the work gets even better”, said governor Renato Casagrande.

The Military Police will reinforce policing, seeking to strengthen relations with rural residents, in addition to promoting more frequent reassuring visits to properties and businesses, prioritizing the exchange of useful information necessary to carry out the operation. This action aims, in particular, to provide guidance on safe behavior, people engaging in suspicious conduct or behavior, possible offenders, escape routes, criminals’ mode of action, among others, as well as intensifying actions to approach vehicles and people.

The Secretary of State for Public Security and Social Defense, Eugênio Coutinho Ricas, celebrated the continuity of Operation Harvest, in order to provide additional support for rural workers, especially those who work in coffee and pepper crops.

“It is a great joy to be able to continue this specialized policing, which was a success in previous years and is expected by families in the interior, in the countryside, at this time of the black pepper and coffee harvest. At this moment, we have a large circulation of people in the fields and also of significant values, apart from goods. So, we have to pay special attention to these people”, highlighted Ricas.

The general commander of the Military Police, Colonel Douglas Caus, highlighted that there is specialized patrolling work, but also reassuring visits to the population of rural areas in all regions of Espírito Santo. “This operation will provide more security to our farmers, with patrols and reassuring visits, with a focus on this harvest season, in addition to bringing this issue of police presence to farmers”, he added.
