Launch of “Cachimbos dos Povos Guarani” as part of the Cultural Collections program
The Archaeological Museum of Rio Grande do Sul (Marsul), linked to the Secretariat of Culture (Sedac), is making one of its collections available for online access for the first time. The launch is part of the Acervos da Cultura program.
Entitled “Pipes of the Guarani Peoples”, the collection features around 70 indigenous, ethnographic and archaeological pipes, safeguarded in the institution’s collection. Known as petynguá, the pieces are made of clay and wood by the Guarani people, playing a significant role in their culture.
The collection can be accessed through the Marsul website, by clicking on the banner “Digital Collection”. The initiative aims to bring the population closer to the museum’s collection and encourage research, facilitating access to the pieces that comprise it. The director of Marsul, Cleiton Silveira, highlighted the importance of the initiative. “It is very satisfying to be able to share with the public a sample of such a magnificent collection. The work to prepare the collection for online availability began in February, as part of Sedac’s planning for the Acervos da Cultura program. Our expectation is to continue publishing other collections on an ongoing basis and increasingly awaken everyone’s interest in archaeology,” he said.
The Culture Collections is a strategic program at Sedac, created with the aim of expanding and improving access to information and the preservation of cultural assets. Located in the municipality of Taquara, Marsul is open to researchers from Monday to Friday, by appointment via email [email protected].
