The Ministry of Education (MEC) released the 2023 accounting figures for the Fund for Maintenance and Development of Basic Education and Valorization of Education Professionals (Fundeb) this Friday (26). For Pernambuco, the net amount of R$ 10,161,316.32 will be allocated.

In total, the MEC will allocate an additional amount of R$579.7 million to the states and municipalities that participate in the fund. The allocation of investments is made according to the number of basic education students, based on data from the previous year’s school census.

The amount transferred to Pernambuco is in the Annual Value per Student Fundeb (Vaaf) modality. This transfer is made to supplement funds that did not reach the minimum student value for the year.

In addition to this Fundeb modality, there are two others: Annual Value per Total Student (VAAT) and Annual Value per Student by Result (VAAR). They serve to guide how the additional Fundeb value will be distributed.

The modalities were created because, over time, inconsistencies in the redistribution of resources were noticed. Naturally, states with lower per capita income received more funding. But what happened was that poorer schools located in states considered “richer” did not receive adequate supplementation.

VAAT and VAAF help to indicate inequalities and allow direct transfers to be made to schools that do not reach these minimum values per student.
