Patient Anderson Pereira, 36 years old, had his left hand reimplanted after being hit by a bladed weapon. The surgery was carried out at the Sergipe Emergency Hospital (Huse), which announced the case this Friday (26).
According to Huse, it was the first hand reimplantation surgical procedure in the hospital unit. The surgery took place last Sunday and lasted around 10 hours. The patient was referred from the municipality of Pedro Alexandre, in Bahia.
“I’m very happy to have my hand back. I really thought I was going to lose my hand but, thank God and the whole team, I have my hand back. They said that I would only have this doctor to put my hand back in place and I am very moved. I am very grateful, it was a renewed hope”, celebrated Anderson Pereira.
According to the doctor specializing in reconstructive microsurgery, Alex Franco, who performed the procedure, it is a complex intervention that was only possible due to the care taken with the affected limb, which was kept on ice the entire time.
“It was a surprise for him because he thought his hand would be amputated. This means a lot to the patient and to the people who work for the good of each patient. We carry out all reconstruction of arteries and veins. More than 20 tendons were repaired, in addition to the bone and, finally, the skin. Care now continues towards healing and hospital discharge. He will need to go through a major recovery process,” he explained.
