The teams from the Zoonosis Control Center (CCZ) and Endemic Diseases, from the Municipal Health Department (SMS), began this week the 4th stage of the project in partnership with the Ministry of Health, “Encoleira Cão”, which aims to implement collars impregnated with deltamethrin.

Started in August 2022, the project carries out blood tests and implants collars on dogs, returning every six months to participating homes to change the animals’ collars and monitor cases.

Each stage takes an average of 15 to 30 days to complete the change of collars for the pets being treated, depending on the weather conditions for the visits, which take place during City Hall’s business hours.

The study included 384 dogs belonging to residents of the Santa Júlia, Vila Alegre and Santa Rita neighborhoods. In this first week, visits began in the Santa Júlia neighborhood, during City Hall business hours. Each year, the exams will be repeated, and the collar will be changed every 6 months, with a limit of 8 semi-annual cycles to compare the effectiveness of the collar treatment against Leishmaniasis.

Information – In addition to the CCZ telephone number (67) 99251-1668, citizens who live in the regions covered by the study can obtain more information about the action at www.treslagoas.ms.gov.br/servico/encoleiracao.
