Pernambuco sends aid to the population of Rio Grande do Sul

The first items donated by the city of Recife to the City of Porto Alegre, for the victims of the intense rains that affected the State of Rio Grande do Sul, were sent this Tuesday (7) by Azul Linhas Aéreas. The materials are already at the airline’s cargo terminal.

According to Recife city hall, 500 mattresses, 500 personal hygiene kits, 500 cleaning kits and 100 boxes of mineral water in glasses will be sent. On Tuesday night, early Wednesday morning (8) and so on, the remaining items will be sent, according to space availability on the aircraft.

“In solidarity with the victims of the intense rains in Rio Grande do Sul, Recife City Hall is sending today (7), a donation with 500 mattresses, 500 personal hygiene kits, 500 cleaning kits and mineral water. Transportation will be provided free of charge, in partnership with Azul Linhas Aéreas. The moment is for everyone to come together. We will support Rio Grande do Sul and all its residents and through solidarity overcome this difficult moment”, highlighted Mayor João Campos.

The items donated by municipal management were in stock and will be replaced immediately, according to management. The objective is for the donation to alleviate the tragedy caused by the rains that hit the southern state.

“We mobilized some municipal management bodies, through the Recife Operations Center (COP), in this solidarity movement with friends from Porto Alegre. I have been talking a lot with representatives from the city hall there and seeing what the needs are at this moment”, explained the head of the COP, Anderson Soares.

“We are donating items such as mattresses, personal hygiene kits, cleaning kits and an item that is super important in this situation, which is water. We are sending one hundred boxes of mineral water, with 48 units of that water in a glass, totaling 4,800,” he added.

Azul is also providing a collection point for the general public at the Azul Cargo store at the Recife Airport Cargo Terminal. (Diário de Pernambuco/Recife)
