Civil Police of Minas Gerais Disclosure/Civil Police
A 38-year-old Russian woman was rescued by the Civil Police after suffering domestic violence in Montes Claros, in the north of Minas Gerais. The woman appealed to the Russian Consulate in Belo Horizonte, which informed the security forces about the situation. The victim was rescued along with the couple’s two-year-old daughter. Listen to the full report below:
She told the police that she met her current partner in her country of origin. In addition to being physically attacked, the man also forced her to hand over all the money sent to her by her family living in Russia. Then he used the value to buy alcoholic drinks.
According to the Civil Police, the woman was rescued “in a situation of extreme psychological vulnerability, with bruises on her body and very weak”. She was taken to the Medical-Legal Center for examination.
According to the Russian Consulate in Belo Horizonte, this was the second time that an immigrant sought help for cases of domestic violence in Minas Gerais.
The honorary consul, Carolina Bernardes, said that, in cases like this, immigrants should not be afraid to ask for help:
“In cases like this, immigrants should always seek out their consulate, because we can do exactly what was done: call the Civil Police, call the specialized police station and seek help and guidance so that the citizen can receive the support and necessary rescue when necessary. The police obviously serve to protect any and all citizens at risk in the State, and this also applies to immigrants, obviously.”
The Civil Police of Minas Gerais reported that the man is being investigated for domestic violence, illegal restraint, bodily harm, threats and insults committed against the victim and the couple’s daughter.
