With roots in MS, player who defeated Flamengo celebrates victory in the Libertadores – Sports

The center forward responsible for Flamengo’s defeat in a game against Bolívar, played yesterday in the Copa Libertadores da América 2024, has roots in Mato Grosso do Sul. Francisco da Costa Aragão, known as “Chico”, is the son of Nilson Aragão, the Championship-winning striker State in 1992 by Sena (Sociedade de Nova Andradina).

A native Gaucho, the 28-year-old athlete was revealed by Athletico and has played for teams in several Latin American countries. The proud father told the press that he feels great joy with his son’s prominence in the competition.

“For me it was a pleasure to see him score a goal in the Libertadores, against one of the most important teams in Bolivia, and against Flamengo, a champion”, explained Nilson.

Chico arrived at Bolívar in 2022, and since then, he has scored 47 goals in 70 matches for the neighboring country. “It’s exciting to watch the game as a father and fan. It’s something out of this world”, highlighted the former striker.

Nilson is from a family in São Paulo and moved to Nova Andradina as a child, where he still lives today, 298 kilometers from Campo Grande. In addition to playing for Sena, he also coached the team in 2009, in Series A of the state competition.

“I was fortunate to be champion for the [Nova] Andradina was top scorer and star player in the championship in 1992, but I also played for Operário in 1996, having even scored against Grêmio in the Copa do Brasil”, added Nilson.
