The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) (photo) sent this Thursday (25) to the Federal Supreme Court (STF) an opinion to maintain the decision of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) that condemned former president Jair Bolsonaro to become ineligible for a period of eight years.ebc.gif?id=1592351&o=node

In June last year, the TSE condemned Bolsonaro for abuse of political power and misuse of the media for using the physical structure of the Palácio da Alvorada to hold a meeting with ambassadors, in July 2022, when he attacked the electronic voting system .

When giving his opinion on the issue, the deputy attorney of the Republic, Alexandre Espinosa, understood that it is not up to the Supreme Court to review the decision of the Electoral Court that condemned the former president.

“Reassessing the judgment made by the TSE on the damage caused to the soundness of the process in the conduct perpetrated by the appellant necessarily involves reconstructing relevant facts, a task inappropriate for the extraordinary instance”, says the opinion.

In the document, the PGR also commented on the request from Bolsonaro’s defense to consider Minister Cristiano Zanin, rapporteur of the case, prevented from analyzing the process. Before arriving at the Supreme Court, Zanin worked as a lawyer for President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s campaign in the 2022 election.

“The defense’s allegations of the existence of the reporting minister’s impediment were presented in a generic way and with a subjective bias, thus not proving to be sufficient to establish the alleged impediment”, added the PGR.

With the TSE conviction, Bolsonaro was prevented from running in elections until 2030. The former president also has a second conviction in the case of the electoral use of the September 7, 2022 celebrations.
