To avoid being penalized with a very serious fine, in the amount of R$ 1467.35, drivers with a National Driving License (CNH) of categories C, D and E, and whose toxicological test has expired, have until the 30th of April to carry out the procedure, in a laboratory of your choice or even in large pharmacy chains. The State Department of Traffic of Bahia (Detran-BA) has guided drivers through educational campaigns. Drivers capable of driving trucks, pickup trucks, cargo vans, buses, minibuses must carry out the procedure; passenger vans, trains and articulated buses.

Even those who are not using categories C, D and E need to take the exam. “There are two options: either do the toxicology test, or go to the SAC (Citizen Assistance Service) or Ciretran (Regional Traffic District) and ask to reduce your driver’s license category to category B. If the driver does nothing , the infraction is automatic, called a counter infraction, and from May 1st it will be included in the National Traffic System. Every two and a half years, category C, D and E drivers must take this exam“, explained the general director of Detran-BA, Rodrigo Pimentel.

Rodrigo highlights that this is a simple exam, carried out by collecting fragments of hair or nails. Within five days, the laboratory itself updates the national database with the results of this test. “It is important to remove drivers who use psychotropic substances from the country’s roads. It has already been proven that, over the years, after these toxological tests, there was a reduction of up to 30% in accidents involving trucks and buses on the country’s highways.“. According to data from Detran-BA, around 210 thousand drivers have already taken their exams and are up to date with this obligation. But we still have a total of 140 thousand people who didn’t do it and must meet the deadline to avoid being penalized. The National Traffic Secretariat (Senatran) has sought to guide drivers with educational campaigns and alerts issued through the Digital Traffic Card (CDT) so that drivers can take the test. To do this, simply access the CDT driver area; click on the “Toxicological test” button and check if the deadline for carrying it out has passed.

The Bahia Military Police Highway Police Battalion carried out an educational inspection this Wednesday morning (24), at the Palmares station, on BR-324, in Simões Filho, in which they approached truck and bus drivers. Among those approached, all had a regular exam. Deputy commander of the 1st Battalion of the 1st Highway Police Company, Lieutenant Matias, spoke about the work done day in and day out on Bahia’s highways. “Not only are toxicological tests charged, but others are also charged, licensing, qualification, tachograph, metro certificate, mandatory equipment, it is work done in all garrisons, throughout the state of Bahia and, thank God, no We are having a problem in this regard. Drivers are very responsible and we have not yet been able to charge any driver with an expired drug test at this point.“, he stated.

Approached during inspection, truck driver Lázaro Silva, has had his toxicological test updated for six months and valid until 2025. “It is very important because in addition to our safety, it is very good for us to also be aware of the use of drugs and everything else and, in a way, be able to bring more security to transport and to those who are traveling on the roads. It’s never good to leave it until the last minute because then we don’t have time, we can’t take time off to go after it, so the inspection is also there 100% and then it ends up generating a fine, right? It’s good for us to have this certain control to avoid paying fines and suffering in our pockets.“, he declared.
