Deputies discuss a way out of the pension breach and suggest MT “repair” – Politics

Deputies who are part of the temporary committee to discuss the deficit of Ageprev (Mato Grosso do Sul Pension Agency) used the tribune of Alems (Legislative Assembly of Mato Grosso do Sul) this Wednesday (24) to discuss measures to account for the deficit of approximately R$12 billion without increasing the discount rate or impacting retirees’ salaries.

Among the measures, the possibility of including Mato Grosso in the discussions and seeking alternatives for a “historical and financial repair” of the neighboring state was raised, given that a significant amount of civil servants contributed to IPEMAT (Social Security Institute of the State of Mato Thick).

With the division of the State of Mato Grosso and the creation of the State of Mato Grosso do Sul in 1977, state employees were redistributed between the two federative units. The service time, however, was not interrupted. In this way, public employees stationed in Mato Grosso do Sul continued contributing to IPEMAT until the creation of Mato Grosso do Sul’s own pension scheme.

“When I spoke about the issue of Mato Grosso, of course this is a long time ago, many years old, but we are in the political world. This is something that everyone knows happened, Mato Grosso got the money, because they contributed to Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso Sul got the bill to be paid. There is a lot of time, but we are in the political world, we need to look for alternatives. And this demand is fair”, said deputy Paulo Duarte (PSB).

Echoing the demand to include Mato Grosso in the discussions, deputy Pedro Kemp (PT) recalled that this discussion had already been discussed previously, but did not prosper due to a “lack of political will”.

“When the State was divided, Mato Grosso do Sul was created, the civil servants who remained here in the State had already contributed to the IPMAT pension fund, in Mato Grosso. And that money was not returned. So it is necessary to recover this story a little and see the possibility of this money returning to the Mato Grosso do Sul Pension Fund. And this discussion has been made countless times, but it does not move forward. Because there was a lack of political will to solve the problem. So we have to put this point on the agenda and end this discussion once and for all”, stressed Kemp.

Pedro Pedrossian Neto (PSD) reinforced that the problem with the deficient pension system is a reality faced across the country and that requires urgent solutions to avoid getting even worse in the future, given the longevity of the population.

“The pension problem is a problem that cannot be resolved in the short term, this is a historical problem and it is not a problem in Mato Grosso do Sul, it is a national and global problem. We have a phenomenon that is the aging of the population. So this problem exists, tomorrow it will continue to exist and in the future it will be more serious because people will see it more”, explained Pedrossian.

Regarding the commission’s work, deputy Paulo Duarte highlighted that, in addition to repairing Mato Grosso, other situations will be studied to minimize the social security deficit, which is around R$12 billion. The State Government contributes, in addition to the employer’s quota, approximately R$3 billion per year to contain the gap.

Duarte guaranteed that the commission will act responsibly and will present concrete proposals at a meeting scheduled with retirees after the workers’ holiday. “We are not going to deceive anyone. Let’s work seriously, without pointing fingers. Soon, we will meet with retirees and pensioners to take stock of the working group’s activity”, he concluded.
