The Public Ministry of the State of Acre (MPAC), through the Civil Prosecutor’s Office of Sena Madureira, held this Thursday, 2nd, a meeting to discuss the proposal to implement reflective groups for perpetrators of domestic violence in the municipality.

Led by prosecutor Júlio César de Medeiros, the meeting was attended by the municipal secretary of Social Assistance, Daniel Herculano, and other representatives of the Sena Madureira women’s protection network.

Reflective groups are spaces for education and rehabilitation for perpetrators of violence against women, promoting reflection and rethinking gender relations and everyday experiences. Among the results that can be achieved are the accountability of men who commit violence, the prevention of new episodes of the same nature and the deconstruction of the association between masculinity and violence.

According to the prosecutor, the implementation of the program aims to intensify compliance with urgent protective measures, since the Maria da Penha Law already explicitly provides for the psychosocial monitoring of the aggressor, through individual care and/or support groups. Furthermore, the measure aims to ensure compliance with Municipal Law nº. 749/2023, which establishes the program to prevent and combat domestic and intra-family violence in Sena Madureira.

As established at the meeting, MPAC will provide, together with the Court of Justice of Acre (TJAC), the technical training of the municipal protection network team to work in reflective groups, which will have the support of other institutions. “As soon as the team is structured with the appropriate physical location, we will align the Public Prosecutor’s Office, Court of Justice, Public Defender’s Office, Civil Police and Maria da Penha Patrol, aiming at the effectiveness of the measures”, stated Júlio César de Medeiros.
