The Civil Police did not find any other attempts at bank transactions and loans on the account of Paulo Roberto Braga, aged 68, taken by his niece Érika de Souza Vieira Nunes, aged 42, to a bank branch in Bangu, in the West Zone of Rio, to withdraw a loan of R$17,000, and was found dead at the scene. According to delegate Fábio Luiz da Silva Souza, from the 34th DP (Bangu), the breach of the elderly man’s banking secrecy, requested on the 18th, did not find any other bank transactions other than R$ 17 thousand at Itaú in Bangu.

The Civil Police carried out a credit search — personal data, financial transactions, balances, statements and investments — in financial institutions. In addition to other Itaú agencies, possible transactions were checked at BMG, Crefisa and INSS, but no other debit was found or an attempt was registered.

— No other previous loan discounts were found in the INSS report. In the report, there are no loans approved or invoiced, not even with a cancellation status — said the case investigator.

So far, the Civil Police has interviewed witnesses from the personal credit company Crefisa. There is still no statement from BMG bank employees. The investigations remain ongoing.

Remember the case

Érika de Souza Vieira Nunes, 42, went to a bank in Bangu with her uncle, Paulo Roberto Braga, in a wheelchair. There, the woman tried to help him sign a document that would allow him to withdraw R$17,000 for a loan. Without showing any reaction and with his head lolling back and to the sides, the elderly man caught the attention of the employees. A video, with the woman asking the elderly man to sign the papers to authorize the withdrawal of the money, went viral on social media. When he was attended to by a Samu team at the scene, called by the agency’s workers, it was found that the man was dead.

On April 15th and 16th, Érika appears in the security camera images of the Real Bangu shopping mall, located on Francisco Real, pushing her uncle Paulo in a wheelchair. On both days, the footage shows the moment she enters the BMG bank and leaves him waiting outside the door.

On Tuesday (16), Érika was arrested in the act at an Itaú branch for vilifying a corpse and theft by fraud. On the afternoon of last Thursday (18), the 2nd Criminal Court of the Bangu Region converted the arrest of the suspect into preventive. In a statement to the police, Érika said that she was responding to a request from Paulo Roberto who wanted to buy a television set and do work on the house.
