Inmates at the Rio Branco Penitentiary Complex will receive dental care

The Public Ministry of Acre (MPAC) and the City of Rio Branco, with the support of the Institute of Penitentiary Administration of Acre (Iapen), signed a partnership this week that aims to guarantee dental care for inmates at the Antônio Amaro Maximum Security prison.

Starting next Monday (29), five dental vans from the City Hall’s “Producing Smiles” program will serve those re-educated inside state prison units.

According to prosecutor Tales Tranin, head of the 4th Criminal Justice Prosecutor’s Office of the District of Rio Branco, in an interview with TV Gazeta, the vans will be distributed among the prisons; one at the Women’s Penitentiary Unit, one at Antônio Amaro and three at Francisco de Oliveira Conde (FOC).

“These vans will be located in the Rio Branco prison complex. One for women, another for Antônio Amaro and three for Francisco de Oliveira Conde. They will be in front of the pavilions. Each van serves 15 to 20 re-educated students per day. All FOC pavilions will be attended to with the re-educated students undergoing the necessary dental treatments”, says Tranin.

Never used dental chair

Prosecutor Tales Tranin confirmed in an interview with TV Gazeta last week, the complaint that the Antônio Amaro Maximum Security prison has a dental chair in precarious conditions donated in 2012 and which was never used. In this way, the Prisoners, when they need dental care, are transferred to the Francisco de Oliveira Conde Penitentiary Complex.

The complaint was made by the criminal police, and, after an inspection of the unit, prosecutor Tranin personally confirmed the abandonment of the play. Based on this finding, the Public Ministry of Acre wants to understand why the State did not designate any dentist to work in this unit.
