The Transport Sector that operates in Rio Grande do Norte reinforces the need for urgency in completing the BR-304 bypass work, which has been partially closed near the municipality of Lajes, in the interior of Rio Grande do Norte, since the 1st of April, when rains collapsed a bridge there.
With the impossibility of traffic on the stretch, transport that runs on that highway needs to make other route deviations that increase the stretch by tens of kilometers and the travel time by at least two hours.
These other detours (via state highways and municipalities in the region) cause inconvenience to the population and transport operators, either because the trip becomes longer and more tiring, or because this implies increased costs, such as fuel.
For the President of the Transport Federation, Eudo Laranjeiras, the losses are accumulating. “Unfortunately, this situation affects citizens and the entire production chain, which has already announced major difficulties and increases in costs, caused by this exaggerated change in the route.” The President adds that everyone who operates and uses transport, both passengers and cargo, is being heavily affected by this delay in an emergency project.
Eudo considers that the need to complete the diversion work is urgent. “We need to complete this work as soon as possible, both to minimally restore the population’s travel time and to avoid greater impacts on the costs of transport operations, which could have effects on the local economy”, he states.
