The Civil Police indicted on Tuesday (23) a 47-year-old woman who pretended to be a veterinary doctor in Maceió. She was reported by the owner of a cat who died after castration surgery. She confessed that she is not qualified to practice the profession and was indicted for the crime of animal abuse and death.

According to delegate Robervaldo Davino, the guardian paid R$50 for the procedure. The fake doctor said the animal went into cardiac arrest during surgery and died. Then, she left the cat’s body ignored.

After the complaint was made, it was consulted whether it was registered with the Federal or regional Council of Veterinary Medicine and nothing was found. The woman was located and asked to provide clarification. She then confirmed the surgery and confessed that she is not a veterinarian, therefore, not qualified to perform the procedure, and claimed to have acquired some knowledge in the area after having worked for a while as a veterinarian’s assistant.

According to the delegate, the woman did not inform the location where the surgeries were carried out. People hired the services, she picked up the animal at home and took them back, without allowing visitors.

Other witnesses said they had already requested and paid for veterinary services on other occasions, including successful castrations, so there had been no record of complaints until then.
