The rain that devastated part of Rio Grande do Sul and affects neighboring states is expected to continue this Saturday (4), according to Inmet (National Institute of Meteorology).
According to the federal agency, the total volume of rain can reach 100 mm in 24 hours, with winds of up to 100 km/h.
At least half of the state, from the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre to the north and northeast of the state, in addition to practically the entire coast, was placed on orange alert (danger).
The same warning goes from the south of Santa Catarina to almost Blumenau — the heavy rains also caused two deaths in Paraná and another in Santa Catarina.
Late this Friday afternoon (3), the government of Rio Grande do Sul reported that 39 people had already died because of the storms that caused floods and landslides across practically the entire state.
According to Governor Eduardo Leite (PSDB), there are locations in Rio Grande do Sul that should receive up to 1,000 millimeters of accumulated rain during the storm period.
“This situation occurs after the formation of a broad area of low atmospheric pressure, together with the formation and displacement of a cold front that causes new areas of instability”, explains the institute, in a note.
According to Climatempo, with the persistence of the flow of humidity coming from the north of the country, rains continue over areas of the northern half, center and metropolitan region of Porto Alegre.

On Sunday (5), moderate to heavy rains are still expected to continue in the Missões region, the center of the state, valleys, around the capital and on the north coast, with accumulations of between 15 mm and 35 mm, also due to the flow of humidity that comes from the north of the country. In other regions, there is condition for light rain.
“In the southern half, there is a chance of light to moderate rain. Furthermore, the winds blow from the east with gusts of around 40 km/h to 55 km/h in areas of the south and eastern part of the state”, states Climatempo, in note.
According to Inmet meteorologist Dayse Moraes, next Tuesday (7) a new cold front will arrive in Rio Grande do Sul that should cause another period of rain.
In the other southern states, it will rain heavily this Saturday in Florianópolis (SC), which is not forecast for Sunday. The maximum temperature should vary from 26ºC to 28ºC.
In Curitiba it should rain in the afternoon this Saturday and be hot. Inmet forecasts show that the maximum temperature could reach 32ºC. On Sunday, thermometers should reach up to 30ºC.
