This Wednesday (24), is the first working day of the new circulation rules for the express corridors on Avenida Brasil. The operation began this Tuesday (23), during the São Jorge holiday.

With the change, cars and motorcycles will once again be able to travel in the exclusive lanes for BRT, buses and taxis, but with some conditions.

See the changes below:

  • On weekdays, vehicles will be able to drive in the selective lane, the 2nd most to the left, from 10am to 4pm and from 8pm to 5am. On weekends and holidays, this lane will be open all day.
  • Anyone traveling in the selection process, however, must observe the maximum speed of 60 km/h in the corridor and reduce to 40 km/h in the vicinity of each station.

What doesn’t change

  • The left lanes, close to the BRT stations, remain exclusive to BRT Transbrasil. Anyone who invades the space will be fined;
  • Taxis can circulate at any time in the selective lane;
  • Trucks are the only vehicles that are not allowed to travel in any exclusive lane.

The changes were adopted after a series of complaints from drivers, who began to complain about extensive traffic jams.

BRT Transbrasil has 17 stations. The express corridor connects part of the Gentileza Intermodal Terminal (TIG), in the center of Rio, to the Deodoro Terminal, in the North Zone.

In total, there are 50 articulated vehicles circulating between 4am and midnight.
