In the May 2023 sentence, the judge convicted Hanilton of triple homicide, without the victim being able to defend himself. He had already started serving his sentence in a closed regime, but his defense requested a review of the sentence, alleging a miscarriage of justice.
In the criminal review trial, the judges ruled that the defendant did not bring “any new evidence capable of bringing the panel to the attention of the action.”
The collegial decision understood that the request for acquittal was not supported by any of the hypotheses that authorize the admission of the criminal review action.
The footage shows Hanilton entering the health unit calmly after saying he needed an appointment for his mother. At the time of the crime, there were several patients in the waiting room.
Witnesses said he was armed with a knife and walked to the rest room, where the doctor was sleeping during his break.
The autopsy report concluded that the doctor was hit by eight stab wounds in total, at least six of them in the area of his vital organs. Hanilton was arrested in Silvanópolis the day after the crime.
The police’s main line of investigation was that the crime was motivated by jealousy, as the defendant’s wife had worked with the doctor at the health unit.
