According to the Public Security Secretariat, both men had experience with the police. Cael Rodrigues was investigated for theft, robbery and trafficking, while Markson Guimarães was investigated for robbery and attempted feminicide.
According to the Military Police (PM), teams were called around 6pm on Monday (22) by the victim, reporting the robbery in the Santa Bárbara sector. But at the time of the call, the victim was in a car chasing the suspects’ vehicle.
When they arrived close to a green area in the Santa Fé sector, the two cars crashed and some of the robbers managed to flee the scene in the vehicle. But two ran into a thicket.
Soldiers from the Shock Police Battalion (BPChoque) searched the location and according to the PM, the suspects resisted arrest. The police confirmed that there was an exchange of gunfire and the men were shot and died. The soldiers involved in the action were not injured.
With the duo, the military seized two firearms, a revolver and a pistol, which according to the PM will be presented to the Civil Police.
The case is being investigated by the 1st Specialized Homicide and Personal Protection Division (DHPP), as a death caused by the intervention of a State agent.
The suspects’ bodies were taken to the Palmas Legal Medical Institute, where they underwent necropsy examinations and were released to their families.
