Idam warns about the deadline for vaccination against foot-and-mouth disease in the state

-

The campaign runs until April 30th and if the target of 95% vaccination coverage is reached, Amazonas will be free of the disease

On April 30th, the deadline for vaccination against foot-and-mouth disease in Amazonas ends. To date, livestock farmers can purchase doses of the vaccine at the 75 Local Units and Outposts of the Institute for Sustainable Agricultural and Forestry Development of the State of Amazonas (Idam).

And the deadline to notify the Amazonas Sustainable Agricultural and Forestry Defense Agency (Adaf) remains until May 15th. If the target of 95% vaccination coverage of the herd in 41 municipalities is achieved, the entire Amazon will be considered free of foot-and-mouth disease without vaccination, from May 2nd of this year.

The change in status was published in Ordinance No. 665, of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa), on March 3, 2024. The achievement benefits the state and opens up space for international recognition.

“For livestock farmers who have not yet vaccinated their herds, look for the nearest Idam. It is important to remember that by reaching the vaccination coverage target, our state achieves an important victory, by being free from foot-and-mouth disease without vaccination. The cattle rancher wins, the primary sector wins and the Amazonian economy wins”, highlighted the CEO of Idam, Vanderlei Alvino.
