A man who had been on the run from justice for 20 years for a homicide committed in Monte Azul, North of Minas Gerais, was arrested in Piranhas (AL) this Wednesday (3) during operation Beholders.

According to information from the Special Action Group to Combat Organized Crime (Gaeco), to remain unpunished, he used false documents, even managing to be elected deputy councilor in the 2020 municipal elections.

“The man, who at the time of the crime was considered a ‘feared gunman’ in several regions of Minas Gerais, has an extensive criminal record, with records of attempted and completed homicides, qualified robberies, bodily injuries, threats and kidnapping, among other crimes.”

According to information from Gaeco, the man was sentenced to 30 years for the murder committed in Monte Azul, 14 years for a robbery carried out in the region of Nanuque and also has a conviction by the Military Court.

The arrest, commanded by the Gaeco unit in Montes Claros, had the support of the Military Police of Minas Gerais, the Military Police of Alagoas, the intelligence sector of the Federal Police and Gaeco of Alagoas.

“Now, the MPMG will request the prisoner’s return so that he can answer for the crimes subject to criminal action before the Minas Gerais Court, as well as inform the criminal prosecution bodies in Alagoas to investigate the use of false documents promoted by the fugitive.”
